Specialized Requirements for Employment

Several of Shoreline's educational programs require additional steps to be job ready.  Many programs lead to professional licensure or professional certification. These licenses are required to practice in the profession. This list contains only Shoreline College programs leading to required licenses or certificates. It also includes the name of the license or certificate and how it can be acquired.

Dental Hygiene   

To become a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH): 

  • Pass the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination (NBDHE) 

Health Information Technology 

To become a Registered Health Information Technician: 

  • Pass the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Certification Examination 

Medical Laboratory Technology 

 

To become a Medical Laboratory Technician: 

  • Pass the Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT) Certification Exam by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification 

Nursing  

To become a Licensed Registered Nurse: 

Nursing Assistant Certified 

To become a Certified Nursing Assistant: 

Phlebotomy 

To become a Licensed Phlebotomist: 

  • Pay a fee 
  • There is no exam required for the Washington state license
