Procedural Guidelines 

The syllabus is a statement of intent and schedule of topics/activities that serves as an implicit agreement between the instructor and students. It must be distributed, either as a hard copy or online, on or before the first day of the term.  

The instructor will provide an electronic copy of the course syllabus to their instructional administrator and division/department chair or equivalent prior to the first-class session (or the first day of the quarter for online sections).  

All faculty must list course outcomes in syllabi as they appear in course outline information.  

All syllabi will include, at a minimum, the following information:  

  1. Course Identification 
    1. Course title, number and section number(s) as shown in the Class Schedule  
    2. Credit hours/units  
    3. Course description aligned with course outline information  
    4. Course mode (Ex: In-Person, Hybrid, Synchronous Online, etc.)  
    5. Class meeting times (quarter, dates, asynchronous, etc.) and locations (room, virtual link, clinical site, etc.) for lecture, labs, and clinicals  
    6. Course prerequisites, co-requisites and/or permissions  
    7. Course-Level Student Learning Outcomes  
  2. Instructor-specific items 
    1. Instructor Name  
    2. Official contact information including Shoreline email address and office location  
    3. Additional contact information (office phone, etc.) as applicable  Office Hour information (days, times, modality)  
  3. Course Requirements and Evaluation
    1. Required texts, materials, equipment, or note if “None” 
    2. Description of major assignments, exams, projects, and other assessments  
    3. Explanation of how grades will be determined with grading scale or point breakdown  
    4. Grade Options  
    5. Standards for late or make-up exams and assignments  
    6. Absence and course participation requirements  
    7. Definition and consequences of cheating and plagiarism in compliance with the applicable Washington Administrative codes (WACs) and campus policy (compliant with Policy #5033, Dishonesty in Academics)  
  4. College Required items 
    1. Information about class contingency plans for when the campus is closed (compliant with Policy #6030, Suspended Operations)  
    2. Title IX Information and campus contact information  
    3. A Students with Disabilities policy per federal law re: the Americans with Disabilities Act advising students of their rights under this law and contact information for the Student Accessibility Services Office (compliant with Policy #5114, Reasonable Accommodation of Students with Disabilities).
