Definitions
Infant – A child age six weeks to eight months or until the child begins to crawl, whichever comes first.
Signs of Infectious Illness – The College follows King County public health guidance for identifying illness that would prevent an infant from being present in a workplace setting.
Infrequent – No more than two times per month and no more than three months per year, for a total of six times per year.
Procedural Guidelines
Employees who are parents or legal guardians seeking to bring an infant to a college worksite may do so only with prior approval from their supervisor. If the supervisor is unavailable, the request must be directed to the next level administrator.
Supervisors are responsible for ensuring expectations are clear and approval is documented by email.
Infants may be present only on an incidental basis and must always remain under the direct supervision of the parent or legal guardian.
- Infants may not be brought to campus if they show signs of infectious illness.
- Infants are notpermittedin areas that contain hazardous equipment, materials, or environments, including laboratories, workshops, clinical areas, construction zones, or spaces where maintenance activity is occurring.
- Infants may not handle materials or interact with equipment, workspaces, or property belonging to others.
If an infant becomes disruptive or the environment is no longer appropriate, the parent or guardian must remove the infant from the workplace immediately.
Unattended or unsupervised infants on campus grounds will be referred to Campus Safety.
