The College is committed to minimizing environmental impact, promoting sustainability, and supporting inclusive and participatory decision-making in alignment with college policy. 
 
All proposed projects that may impact campus land will be coordinated through the Facilities Department or Campus Safety, as appropriate, to ensure alignment with college standards and regulatory requirements. 

Projects will be brought forward through existing College participatory governance processes as appropriate to the scope and potential impact of the activity. Smaller, ongoing, routine projects may be managed operationally, while projects with broader institutional impact will be reviewed through appropriate councils or committees. Documentation of these discussions will occur through existing governance records and processes. 

Project planning should consider potential environmental impacts such as vegetation and tree canopy, habitat and ecological systems, soil conditions, stormwater, and the presence or spread of invasive species. Where required, projects will follow applicable regulatory processes, including State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA). 

To the extent practicable, projects should prioritize the use of previously disturbed areas and minimize impacts to wooded or ecologically sensitive spaces. 

For institutional projects (those that impact a significant portion of the college footprint), the College will reach out to engage Indigenous communities and incorporate relevant cultural and ecological knowledge, consistent with RCW 43.376 and College practice.  This will be coordinated through the DEI office. 

Projects involving land disturbance should include reasonable and site-appropriate restoration measures, which may include the use of native or climate-adapted vegetation, soil stabilization, and sustainable landscaping practices.
