Policy: 

Shoreline College District Number Seven (7) is committed to operating in alignment with the goals of the Washington State Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) and the State Board for Community & Technical Colleges (SBCTC). The College’s objective is to ensure the security and protection of all information technology (IT) resources within the College’s ownership, control, and available resources.  

This policy applies to:  

  • All employees, students, contractors, vendors, and third-party service providers who access or use College IT resources.  
  • All College-owned or managed systems, networks, applications, and data.  
  • All forms of data, including electronic, printed, and transmitted information.  

The College will maintain adequate security and protection for all IT resources. This includes, but is not limited to:  

  • IT facilities, networks, and systems  
  • Data classification, handling, storage, transmission, and disposal  
  • Training and awareness  
  • Compliance with legal and regulatory requirements  
  • Application services from state agencies or commercial entities  
  • Appropriate backup and business continuity systems 
  • Internet-based applications and connectivity  

The Technology Support Services (TSS) Department is responsible for oversight and management of all tasks and procedures necessary to maintain IT security within the College infrastructure. All members of the College community share this responsibility and must comply with all related policies and procedures governing College managed technology and resources.  

Failure to comply with this policy may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment, student conduct sanctions, or termination of vendor contracts. Violations may also be subject to civil or criminal penalties as permitted by law.
