Matt Allison

Matt began his formal education in art by focusing on painting and drawing in college.  There he was first introduced to Japanese ceramics, for which he found a strong affinity and so went back to school for an MFA and a DFA in ceramics.  Matt has been full-time faculty here at Shoreline for about 10 years and while his own art practice is in clay having studied ceramics in Japan for five years, here at SCC he teaches 2D Design, Drawing, Modern Art History, and Art Appreciation.  In his classes Matt loves to make connections between the concepts of Art and the concepts that govern our cosmos!

Gary Georger

I am an artist. I studied painting at New Paltz University in New York and pursued a career as a potter for over ten years. I took advantage of the opportunity to venture out and roam the world for six years.  I lived in Izmir, Turkey. I studied at Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi and earned a Masters of Ceramic and Glass. My attention was drawn to the ancient kilns and techniques of Persian wares as I focused on building kilns from the local soils. I fired my modern works within these ancient techniques. I was fortunate to be an invited artist-in-residency on the Datcha peninsula. The works were featured in the 2012 Istanbul Biannual.

After graduate school, I furthered my studies in Vietnam, collecting local terra-cotta cook stoves and common cookware while teaching art at Saigon South International School. In Saigon I opened a collective artist studio, and my attention was drawn back to painting with an exhibition invitation at the HCMC Art Museum.

I have returned to Seattle. It feels wonderful to be back home with family, friends, and community. I am fully engaged in a career as an artist and an educator. You can find me either at North Seattle College, Shoreline Community College or in my 'Georger Studio' making Art.

In my studio I simply participate in a tradition, adding my own individual and unique creativity to the age honored art of pottery. I have been living with clay for most of my life. It is a part of me, as the natural elements are a part of all of us and rings true to my heart.  The material is so responsive, the fire, so alluring and with that, I am fortunate to simply create pots for your enjoyment.  I make pots.

Lauren Greathouse

Born and raised in the north Seattle suburb of Lake Forest Park, Lauren Greathouse received her BA in English and BFA in Photography from Washington State University in 2003. In 2007, she earned an MFA in photography from Louisiana State University and after graduation, spent 2 years as a still photographer on film and television sets in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  She returned to the pacific northwest in 2009.

Currently, Lauren teaches photography classes at Everett and Shoreline Community Colleges. She has work in the permanent collection at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and has been awarded residencies from Photo Center Northwest in Seattle and the Hambidge Center in Georgia. Her most recent body of work focuses on the changing landscape of the Pacific Northwest and her own relationship with and memories of it.

Zach Mazur

Zach Mazur grew up in McHenry County, Illinois, one of the most rapid growing counties in the nation. Watching the landscape surrounding his hometown go through dramatic changes over the years has had an enormous influence on his artistic development. His artwork addresses social and environmental themes and uses photography to explore concepts of both natural and urban environments as both a professional artist and photojournalist.

Mazur received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography at Columbia College Chicago and a Master of Fine Arts at Washington State University. He identifies as a scholar-artist and holds a PhD in Cultural Studies and Social Thought in Education from Washington State University where he performed as the Curator of Education and Collections at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art for over a decade. He is currently a faculty member at Shoreline Community College where he teaches courses in studio art and photography.

Mazur's and identifies himself as a scholar-artist and situates his research within art for social change and critically conscious curation. Recent recognitions include Washington state's Grant for Artists Projects Award, the Pingyao International Photography Exhibition in China, and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education Award for Best Photographic Series and Photographer of the Year.
