SAT or ACT scores

How can I use my SAT or ACT scores for placement?

You can use your SAT or ACT scores for math or English placement up to two years from the date of your exam.

Test Score Shoreline Placement
SAT Reading AND Writing 460 or higher ENGL& 101
SAT Reading under 460 OR Writing under 460 Use high school transcript or another placement method
ACT Reading AND English 19 or higher ENGL& 101
ACT Reading under 19 OR English under 19 Use high school transcript or another placement method

Test Score Shoreline Placement
SAT Math 600 or higher MATH 111, MATH& 141, or higher based on another placement method
SAT Math 520 - 599 MATH& 107,  MATH& 146*, MATH& 141 with corequisite support, or MATH 99
SAT Math under 520 Use high school transcript or another placement method
ACT Math 25 or higher MATH 111, MATH& 141, or higher based on another placement method
ACT Math 20 - 24 MATH& 107,  MATH& 146*, MATH& 141 with corequisite support, or MATH 99
ACT Math under 20 Use high school transcript or another placement method

* MATH &146 also requires placement into ENGL 99 or EAP 99.

Choose one of the following options:

  • Bring a copy of your test score when you meet with an advisor to plan your classes.  If you are an online student, you can email a scanned copy to advising@shoreline.edu and schedule a virtual meeting.
  • If you are ready to register in person for ENGL& 101, MATH 99, MATH& 107, or MATH& 146, bring your completed registration form as well as a copy of your test score(s) to the second floor of the FOSS (5000) Building (campus map).
  • If you are ready to register online for ENGL& 101, MATH 99, MATH& 107, or MATH& 146, you can email a scanned copy of your scores to enrollmentservices@shoreline.edu, along with the following information:
    • Your full name
    • Your ctcLink ID Number
    • Name of the course (example:  MATH 99)
    • Name of the instructor:  (example:  Bogart, S.)
    • Class number  (example:  1187)

    If space is available and you have met the appropriate placement or prerequisite, you will be registered for the class based on your email request.

  • If you want to meet prerequisites for other classes using SAT or ACT scores, please contact the relevant department.
