Orientation
Orientation teaches new students the basics of Shoreline and prepares new students for registration. The course is required for everyone, with a few exceptions. Since we know there are a few topics that may not be applicable to everyone, we’ll let you know which sections you may skip if they don’t apply to you.
To have enough time to register for classes, your orientation course must be completed at least 7 days before the beginning of your first quarter.

Orientation will provide students with resources to learn and refer back to later, covering the following topics:
- Setting up your Shoreline Network ID
- Degree programs and pathways offered at Shoreline
- Math and English placement options
- Transferring previous college credit
- An introduction to academic advising
- How to register for classes
- How to pay for college
- Community health and safety policies
- Campus resources
Unfortunately, the hold removal is not an automatic process, but we regularly review accounts to remove holds. The timeline depends on which modality you're completing orientation.
On-Campus Orientation:
After the session has concluded your registration hold will be released.
Online Orientation:
Once you finish each of the checkpoints in the course, including the New Student Intake Survey, your hold will be removed within 1-2 business days.
International Education and folks preparing for college level classes with our Transitional Studies Programs (English Language Learners, Adult Basic Education, and CECO) have their own onboarding process and do not need to complete one of these orientations.
