Program Description

The 90 credit Associate in Arts—Direct  Transfer Agreement (AA-DTA) is an agreement between Washington State Community and Technical Colleges and Baccalaureate Institutions. The AA-DTA transfers as a package to satisfy most, if not all, of the lower division, general education requirements and typically grants students junior standing.

General Transfer  — What is it?

The General Transfer, Associate in Arts—Direct Transfer Agreement (AA-DTA), is the option of choice for students who want to transfer to a university but are undecided about their choice of an academic major. Within the AA-DTA guidelines, students are encouraged to explore their interests and begin taking courses to prepare for a major.

Students who are interested in Science, Engineering and many Health Science fields should follow the Associate in Science planning guides.

Associate transfer degrees do not guarantee university admission. Baccalaureate colleges and universities may have additional requirements for admissions and/or graduation; therefore it is important to consult directly with university admission counselors and/or advisors for specific information.

Career Opportunities — What can I do with an Associate in Arts Degree?

General knowledge across many academic fields provides students with transferable skills that are needed to be successful in almost any career. From critical thinking and problem solving skills, to research, writing, public speaking and interpersonal communication, graduates with Associate in Arts degrees develop knowledge and skills that are in high demand in multiple employment settings.

Potential employers include:

Federal, state and local governments, banks and financial institutions, business and industry, public and private schools, hospitals and medical facilities, human services agencies, non-profit agencies, and law firms. For more, please visit the Career Center.

Program Outcomes

Transfer Possibilities — Where can I transfer?

An Associate Degree from Shoreline makes it possible for students to transfer to public and private colleges and universities throughout the U.S. with junior standing. Shoreline also has agreements with several universities to make transferring even easier. For transfer within Washington State, we offer a special degree called the AA-DTA. For international students, Shoreline also has conditional admission agreements that allow a student to be simultaneously accepted by Shoreline and a university of the student's choosing.
