Frequently Asked Questions

What is OCEANS?

The OCEANS Course is designed to guide you through important tasks before beginning your education at Shoreline. The course is required for all new students, with a few exceptions, and must be completed before your register for classes. There are some modules that may not be applicable to everyone and you’ll be guided through how to skip those.

The OCEANS Course Covers:

  • Setting up your Shoreline Network ID
  • Degree programs and pathways offered at Shoreline
  • Math and English placement options
  • Transferring previous college credit
  • An introduction to academic advising
  • How to register for classes
  • How to pay for college
  • Community health and safety policies
  • Campus resources

When is the OCEANS Registration Hold Removed?

Unfortunately, the hold removal is not an automatic process, but we regularly review accounts to remove holds. Once you finish each of the checkpoints in the OCEANS course, including the New Student Intake Survey, your hold will be removed within 1-2 business days.

Who does not need to complete OCEANS?

International Education, Running Start students, and folks preparing for college level classes with our Transitional Studies Programs (English Language Learners, Adult Basic Education, and CECO) have their own onboarding process and do not need to complete OCEANS.
