On November 16 in the evening and November 29 during the day, SCC will host discussions of a recent speech by NYT correspondent Thomas Friedman, "That Used to be Us."  The  prerecorded remarks of about 40 minutes will be followed by a discussion moderated by Wayne Mackintosh, Director of the OER foundation in New Zealand (both dates); Connie Broughton, WA State Board of Community and Technical Colleges (November 16); and Lee Lambert, President, Shoreline Community College (November 29).  Details on the times and locations of these two events, as well as information about the moderators, follows:

Wayne Mackintosh is a committed advocate and user of free software for education. He was the founding project leader of New Zealand's eLearning XHTML editor (eXe) project and founder of WikiEducator, an international community of educators collaborating on the development of free/libre teaching materials in support of all national curricula by 2015. Currently, Wayne is the founding director of the International Centre for Open Education at Otago Polytechnic in New Zealand and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the OER Foundation. Dr. Mackintosh is an elected member and inaugural Chair of the WikiEdcuator Community Council.
Connie Broughton is Director of eLearning and Open Resources at the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges. She has been developing and managing collaborative elearning projects since 1997.  These projects include WashingtonOnline, NW eTutoring Consortium, and the Open Course Library. She has also taught English courses at Washington colleges and worked as a freelance writer and producer. 

Lee Lambert serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Shoreline Community College.  Prior to Shoreline Community College, Dr. Lambert was the Vice President for Human Resources and Legal Affairs at Centralia College. At The Evergreen State College, he served as the Special Assistant to the President for Civil Rights and Legal Affairs and as an adjunct professor who taught courses on Law, Civil Rights and Social Justice and Employment Law. He has also worked for the Washington Department of Transportation; the King County Prosecutor's Office; the Washington State Attorney General's Office and has served in the United States Army.  Dr. Lambert is a leading advocate for the advancement of 21st century educational technologies, environmental sustainability, international education and global affairs. He is committed to closing the student achievement gapéincreasing access, learning outcomes and opportunities for students.
