Name Change - How to Let Us Know

Legal Name Change

Continuing or returning students are required to submit legal documentation for a change of name on their official Shoreline Community College record. Examples of acceptable documentation are:

  • a marriage certificate
  • court order
  • divorce decree with name change
  • legal photo identification is required

To complete a legal name change, complete the Student Information Update form and submit it, along with your documentation, to:

2  If these documents are not available, the student must demonstrate usage and provide proof that they are the person whose name is being changed. Typically this requires showing photo ID and a minimum of two pieces of identification in the name requested. One of the documents must have date of birth, a photograph, and a signature.

Preferred Name Change

At Shoreline Community College we recognize that students may want to use a preferred name while attending classes. Students can set a preferred name through ctcLink by following the instructions below:

In this tutorial, we will walk through how to view or edit your contact infomation, biographical information and emergency contacts in ctcLink. Be aware, if you update your preferred email in ctcLink that will be the email that all Shoreline communications are delivered to.

To have your name changed across all systems on campus, contact Enrollment Services at enrollmentservices@shoreline.edu to learn more about changing to a preferred name.

After the change to preferred name is complete, the Registrar will notify the following:

  • Technology Support Services - to change the students Shoreline Network Account go.shoreline.edu email address to the preferred name
  • eLearning - to change to the preferred name in Canvas classrooms
  • Library - to allow a new student ID card to be issued (at no charge to the student)
