University and College Transfer Information

Shoreline Advisors are great resources to support you in transferring to a college or university. It is strongly recommended that you contact the college or university early in your time here at Shoreline to be advised about additional requirements for your intended major, specific admissions procedures, and unique circumstances.

Personal Statements

Personal Statements, or college application essays, are important pieces of most college applications. They are particularly important if you are applying to competitive programs or need to communicate something unique about yourself or a part of your academic record like a blemish in your GPA.

If you need help on where to get started with your personal statement, make an appointment with your Advisor.

Learn about Colleges

  • Attending a College Fair is a great way to interact with college admission representatives and learn more about their colleges. There are a couple college fairs that Shoreline recommends. Shoreline also hosts individual colleges throughout the year. Those visits are visible on our Advising calendar.

  • When possible, visit colleges in person. Admissions offices frequently have events for prospective student to attend. These events often cover admissions, financial aid, provide a tour, and sometimes have panels where you can interact with students directly. For example, the University of Washington has a weekly event called Transfer Thursday: https://transfer.uw.edu/thursday/

Western Undergraduate Exchange

  • Western Undergraduate Exchange is a tuition-savings program that makes attending public out-of-state colleges and universities more affordable. While over 15 states in western U.S. participate in the program, it is generally pretty competitive depending on the location and major: https://www.wiche.edu/tuition-savings/wue/

Common Application

  • The Comm App is an online tool used to apply to multiple transfer schools with one application. More and more schools are heading toward using the Common App as their sole application: https://www.commonapp.org/

Reverse Articulation

  • Reverse Articulation Agreementsallow students to earn their associate degrees after they have transferred to baccalaureate institutions in Washington. Courses earned at a baccalaureate institution can be transferred back to the community college to complete the associate degree. Adding an associate degree will help students build their resumes and document applicable job qualifications, and provide the benefits of earning an associate in arts degree as part of the Direct Transfer Agreement.
