The Writing & Learning Studio
Temporarily Closed. Online options available.
The Writing & Learning Studio is closed until further notice. Students can contact Kim Sharp at firstname.lastname@example.org for online assistance.
The Writing & Learning Studio offers one-on-one tutorial assistance and instructional resources in a friendly, safe environment where students in all disciplines can be engaged in their individual writing and learning processes.
The Studio's support for students is provided by a committed, caring staff of both students and faculty who work to create a collaborative environment that welcomes diverse views and encourages student learning.
How We Can Help
Tutorial assistance is provided on a drop-in, first come, first served basis. Appointments are not available. To get assistance, come to Room 4301 on the third floor of the SCC Library and write your name on the daily "Sign-Up Sheet" posted in the studio. As soon as a Studio assistant is free, they will call your name.
Assistance with any kind of writing
Students can work with learning assistants on:
- college reading strategies
- study skills
- speech projects
- research papers
- other writing assignments from any class
Learning assistants do not proofread student papers. Instead, they teach students how to analyze their writing and find more of their own errors, which often takes more than one session. They do not guarantee good or better grades, but as you work more on your writing, your instructors will probably notice, and you will be better prepared to communicate more effectively.
The Studio provides free, one-to-one assistance with writing for any course and helps students better understand their reading assignments and develop useful study strategies.
ENGL 089 and ENGL 098 are individualized courses designed to support students at their own level. Students sign up for these variable credit (1-3), continuous enrollment courses to improve their writing, reading, and study skills and gain assistance in their other English classes. For example, many ENGL 101 students also take ENGL 098, so that they can get help with their 101 assignments and get ENGL 098 credit, too.
Our free Student Success Workshops, taught by Shoreline faculty and staff, are great opportunities for you to learn information and techniques that can help you study more effectively, produce better quality writing, get higher grades, and succeed in school. No registration is required. Workshops generally last 50-55 minutes.
No current workshops for fall quarter.
