How to apply to Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing programs
Biotechnology Lab Specialist Applied Associates Degree (AAAS) program
Few prerequisites. Fall quarter start encouraged.
This program is non-selective and the pre-requisites are very limited. You can see all relevant details on the program page.
How to Apply to the Biotech Lab Specialist AAAS program:
- Submit the Biotech Lab Specialist Intake Survey. The purpose of this form is to connect you with a program advisor and gather basic information.
- Meet with a program advisor. After submitting the form, a program advisor will reach out to you within a few days to set up a time to meet.
- Apply to Shoreline Community College, if you are not already an SCC student.
- Note: indicate during the application process that the Biotechnology Lab Specialist AAAS is your chosen program.
- Note: You will need to apply 2 weeks before the quarter begins.
Please note the core biotech courses are taught only once per year and therefore we strongly encourage starting your studies in Fall quarter to avoid any long periods of waiting while you complete the program requirements.

Biotechnology Lab Specialist Certificate program
Multiple prerequisites. Application deadline September 1st. Fall quarter start required to complete program in a single year.
This program is designed for students with prior relevant experience (e.g. prior college or industry experience). More details and a list of pre-requisites can be found on the program page.
This program is non-selective, but an application is required so that we can assess whether you meet the pre-requisites for the program. All candidates are accepted on a first come first served basis as long as they meet program pre-requisites. If you do not meet the pre-reqs, we will help you make a plan to complete them.
How to Apply to the Biotech Lab Specialist Certificate program:
- Review program pre-requisites. Read the program page for the Biotechnology Lab Specialist AAAS or Certificate program, including "Courses & Requirements" and pre-requisites. You can email biotech@shoreline.edu with any questions.
- Submit the Biotech Lab Specialist Intake Survey by September 1st. The purpose of this form is to connect you with a program advisor for pre-requisite
review. After submitting the form, a program advisor will reach out to you within
a few days. Note that late applications may not be processed in time for the Fall
quarter.
- Be prepared to upload unofficial transcripts to help with pre-requisite review.
- Apply to Shoreline Community College, if you are not already an SCC student.
- Note: indicate during the application process that the Biotechnology Lab Specialist Certificate is your chosen program.
Please note courses in this program are taught only once per year. The courses are designed to be completed over one academic year: full-time study from Fall quarter to Spring quarter with part-time study in Summer quarter.
Essentials of Biomanufacturing Certificate program
No prerequisites. Speak with advisor before applying. Taught three times per year in Fall, Winter and Spring quarters.
This program is particularly well suited to students without prior science experience or college studies. However, due to a number of unique features of the program we strongly advise learning more and speaking with a faculty advisor before registering for the courses in this program.

How to Apply to the Essentials of Biomanufacturing Certificate program:
- Meet with an advisor and/or attend an information session to ensure the program is a good fit for you. You can email biomanufacturing@shoreline.edu with any questions.
- Submit the Essentials of Biomanufacturing Intake Survey.
- Apply to Shoreline Community College, if you are not already an SCC student.
- Note: indicate during the application process that the Essentials of Biomanufacturing Certificate is your chosen program.
- Note: applications must be submitted 2 weeks before the quarter begins.
Biomanufacturing Training Program for High School Students / Accelerated Lab Tech Training Certificate
Must be a current high school student. One cohort per year starting in Fall quarter. Application required.
