What subjects are covered by the COMPASS and GED tests?
The COMPASS test covers reading and writing to determine English placement, and math.
The new online GED test covers Reasoning (language arts), math, science and social studies.
How long does each test take?
The COMPASS test is not timed, but here are the average amounts of time for each test.
Reading and Writing......1-1/4 hours (75 min.)
Reasoning......... 2 hrs. 30 min.
Math................. 1 hr. 55 min.
Science............. 1 hr. 30 min.
Social Studies....1 hr. 30 min.

Some scores from Accuplacer are accepted. Contact the Advising Office for more information at 206-546-4559. Shoreline also accepts the ASSET test, a paper version of Compass.

I'd like to retake the COMPASS test. How many times can I take it and do I have to pay again?
You can take all or any part of the COMPASS test twice per quarter. The fee is $20 per retake (reading, writing and/or math).
