Career Exploration Options

There are many ways to take your next steps in career planning and exploration. We have online tools and in person options.

Be sure to check out our list of events coming up (link to the main page), we offer workshops throughout the year that support exploration of career opportunities.

Online Resources:

The following are free online resources that are available to help you explore your interests and align them with career opportunities. We provide additional information on these resources in our Canvas course: https://shoreline.instructure.com/enroll/A4JL6K

  • PathwayU: https://shoreline.pathwayu.com/
    • A user-friendly website that guides people through two main assessments (Interests and Values) to identify potential career and educational paths, with data on job and industry trends.
  • Career Bridge: Washington Career Bridge
    • A great tool to explore educational programs within Washington State. CareerBridge provides the career interests quiz, information about different jobs and hiring trends, and resources on how to pay for school.
  • RoadTrip Nation: Roadtrip Nation | Find your career roadmap
    • A collection of videos and podcasts that feature student-led interviews with professionals in a wide variety of fields. They offer a different version of the career interest inventory that connects you to related leaders’ stories. RoadTrip Nation is an independent nonprofit organization.
  • CIS360/WOIS
    • Provides a variety of tools, surveys, and other assessments to help you identify your interests and potential directions. WOIS is run by a nonprofit organization in Washington. (Login Name: Shoreline2023, Password: 2023Shoreline)
  • My Next Move
    • Helps users explore careers and industries. It also includes an assessment quiz and resources for Veterans. My Next Move was developed by the U.S, Department of Labor, as a part of their O-Net database of occupations.

1:1 Career Chats:

These are designed to be a series of meetings with the Career Center Manager to provide structure and ideas on options.

  • Chat 1: Establish a baseline, identify if a career assessment may be helpful (and if so which one), and connection to additional resources. If appropriate, you can take the assessment in the Career Center, or on your own.
  • Chat 2: Give an overview of platform, review how to view your results and look for patterns and themes in careers and educational paths options.
  • Chat 3: Discuss how follow up went and next steps.

College and Career Success Class (COL 101)

In this first-year course, students engage in self-discovery by identifying their personal, professional, and academic goals. Students collaborate with peers to explore how to make the most of the college resources available to them. By the end of the course, students will have developed skills such as time-management, goal setting, and advocating for themselves which will help them in college and beyond.

Individual counseling is available to those who want to investigate their strengths and interests, need assistance setting educational, career, and/or personal goals, and want to develop confidence in their plans.
