Service-Learning in Ecuador Program for Nursing Students

Health In Ecuador Flyer

Program Summary

Join Shoreline Nursing instructors Wendy Hill and Carolyn Nelson on this unique service-learning program in Ecuador for Nursing students!

The program explores the connections between socio-economic factors and health outcomes in Ecuador. Ecuador is a country of staggering diversity, high economic disparity and urban and rural contrast. Access to healthcare in Ecuador is often inequitable.

Despite problems commonly faced in developing countries, Ecuador has come a long way over the last two decades. In 2023 the country ranked 20th among the most efficient healthcare countries of the world, compared to its 111th rank in the year 2000.

The itinerary explores the diversity of factors, including geography, education, economics, religion, and politics, that affect Ecuadorians’ health and access to health services. Through visits to health institutions, service learning in urban and rural settings, and a visit to a respected university health center, students will gain insight into the unique challenges and a variety of solutions to providing healthcare in Ecuador.

This program also includes visits to several cultural and natural points of interest!
