Gender and Women's Studies focuses on the study of gender as a central aspect of human existence. Students learn about the system of sex/gender construction, how social categories of gender can structure patterns of power, and how the institutions of family, education, employment, politics and media shape individuals as gendered beings. An interdisciplinary field, Gender and Women's Studies incorporates disciplines such as sociology, economics, political science, anthropology, literature, psychology and more.

The Associate in Arts - Direct Transfer Agreement (AA-DTA) is part of Shoreline’s General Transfer program and is designed to meet the first two years of requirements of most four-year degrees.

  2. Examine the interactions between societies and individuals.
  3. Apply methods of a specific discipline to interpret an expression of the human experience.
  4. Identify methods scientists use to explain aspects of the natural world.
  5. Use scientific laboratory practices within a field or discipline to investigate a scientific concept.
In addition to the outcomes above, students will gain the skills and knowledge included in Shoreline Student Learning Outcomes (SSLOs): Communication, Critical Thinking, Equity & Social Justice, Information Literacy, and Quantitative & Symbolic Reasoning.

Occupations pursued by Gender and Women's Studies graduates include law, journalism, politics, public policy, business and industry, social services, counseling, teaching, research, health care, education, social work, business and the arts. Potential employers include: public advocacy groups, non-profit organizations, law firms, government agencies, social and human service organizations, elected officials, political campaigns, consulting and marketing firms, colleges and universities, corporations, newspapers, radio and TV stations, publishing companies, public and private schools, women's health clinics and social service organizations.
