Phi Theta Kappa
Pi Iota Chapter (founded 1967)
Phi Theta Kappa is the honor society for two-year colleges. Students who have 12 college-level credits earned at Shoreline with a GPA of 3.5 or higher are immediately eligible to join.
Phi Theta Kappa is a way to recognize your hard work and achievements here at Shoreline. It is an indicator to employers and universities of your dedication and academic accomplishments.
Members of Phi Theta Kappa are eligible for exclusive scholarships listed in an online database that you will have access to as a member.
Additional benefits of membership include recognition, career training, leadership opportunities, assistance for successful transfer to a four-year college or university, and more. Learn more about the benefits of joining Phi Theta Kappa
Become a Member
To be eligible for Phi Theta Kappa, you must have earned 12 credits at Shoreline Community College and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5. New members may join at any time once school begins in September until May 1, 2021.
- Fill out the Phi Theta Kappa Membership Application and the local Pi Iota Chapter application (Word).
- Pay a one-time $75.00 membership fee to the Cashier’s Office with a check/debit or credit card. This covers both the International/Regional membership fee ($65) and the local Pi Iota chapter fee ($10). Please turn in a copy of your receipt with your application.
- Submit the filled out application forms, along with a copy of your current transcript and the receipt from the cashier’s office to Terry Taylor at firstname.lastname@example.org. The transcripts you submit may be unofficial copies.
- On the day you turn in your complete application, send an e-mail to email@example.com to confirm your Shoreline e-mail address. If your e-mail address is not correct or working, there is no way for the national organization or local chapter to contact you. You must use your Shoreline e-mail account (no other contacts are acceptable).
Your membership will be processed as soon as possible. You should receive a confirmation email and certificate from the International Organization once your membership application is completed. This process often takes several weeks.
Attendance is required at the annual Induction Ceremony (usually in late May or early June) for receipt of a stole, which is worn at commencement, subsidized with society funds. Those not attending the ceremony will need to buy a stole at their own expense directly from the national PTK website.
