WorkFirst is designed to assist low income parents in
achieving their educational and employment goals.
WorkFirst eligible students may receive financial
assistance with tuition, fees and books. Students may
enroll in classes from any of our 52 professional
technical education programs leading to a certificate or
AAAS degree as well as other programs such as customized
job skills training, computer literacy, GED, English as
a Second Language, Adult Basic Education and/or other
short-term training programs. Free tuition and books are
provided through this program and are typically
available for up to one year, depending on funding
resources and ability to create other funding options.
The WorkFirst program at Shoreline Community College focuses on four
primary areas of assistance:
- Job Skills Training
- High-Wage/High-Demand Job Training
- Basic Education
WorkFirst provides students with over 52 career
training programs designed to help them achieve
successful employment upon completion of the college
courses. The training programs offered at Shoreline
focus on building, strengthening and maintaining a solid
set of skills marketable to industry-specific jobs.
Students can choose to upgrade their skills with
supplementary classes, earn credits towards an
AAAS degree or acquire a Certificate of Proficiency or a
Certificate of Completion.
The High-Wage/High-Demand program provides
certificates for customized, industry-specific
employment. The courses offered range from 11 to 33
weeks for completion. Certificates include, but are not
limited to:
- Phlebotomy
- Nursing Assistant Certified (NAC)
- Bilingual Office Assistant
- Receptionist/Office Clerk
- Customer Service Specialist
- Medical Coding Specialist
- Business Software Applications
- Office Specialist
- Automotive
- Manufacturing, etc.
This program is designed to help students improve
their fundamental skills for work-related purposes and
educational endeavors. Students have the opportunity to
earn their GED, prepare to enter degree programs or
professional/technical training classes, receive
literacy and language instruction and obtain guidance in
discovering their interests and abilities to prepare for
professional and personal success.
In order to qualify for FREE training you must
fulfill one of the following requirements:
