Credit Courses
The ENG 089 and ENG 099 courses are not
available during summer quarter. They will resume again in Fall Quarter.
Check this website for the schedule in late September.
Students can earn one, two, or three credits by registering for English 089 Reading Center or English 099 Writing Center to work on reading, writing, or study skills. These individualized lab courses are continuous enrollment courses open to both native and non-native English speakers. (Non-native speakers should be at ESL Level 5 or higher to register for lab credit.)
In English 089 "Reading Center," you can improve your ability to
- read and remember textbook material
- take good lecture notes
- potentially increase your scores on tests
- manage your time
- identify main ideas, supporting details and patterns of organization in different kinds of writing
- read critically
- understand literature
In English 099 "Writing Center," you can improve your ability to
- plan papers
- organize and revise your writing
- develop ideas
- analyze your sentence grammar
- cite outside sources correctly
- proofread your
writing
- use punctuation correctly
- do many kinds of writing tasks
In Education 199 "Tutor Training Experience," you learn how to work as a learning assitant in the TWLS. Both classroom learning and practical experience tutoring are part of the course. Education 199 is a three-credit course. To register, you must have passed Eng. 101 with a 3.5 GPA or higher, have your Eng. 101 instructor's recommendation, and interview with Grace Rhodes, professor of Education 199. These three courses are not offered in the summer.
