The Writing & Learning Studio (TWLS)

About The Writing & Learning Studio

The Writing & Learning Studio dedicates itself to student success by offering resources to help students with writing for any subject, understanding course reading assignments, and studying more effectively.

Mission and Core Values of The Writing & Learning Studio

MISSION

The Writing & Learning Studio dedicates itself to student success by providing assistance to students in reading, writing, and study skills via individualized instruction programs, writing and learning assistance, and academic skills workshops. The TWLS is also committed to developing the knowledge and skills of its staff so that they will be effective facilitators of student learning. The TWLS seeks to provide a friendly and comfortable atmosphere in which students develop responsibility for their own learning and confidence in their learning ability.

CORE VALUES

RESPECT

We value the dignity and worth of all individuals.

SUPPORT

We value a friendly and comfortable atmosphere that offers students assistance in their learning process and supports students' sense of themselves as learners. We also value the support we can give instructors by helping assess their students' leaning needs and providing students with learning opportunities and assistance supplemental to classroom instruction.

COLLABORATION

We value collaboration to assess students' learning needs to improve the quality of instruction and assistance we provide students.

PROGRESS

We value progress over perfection, giving students ample opportunity to practice their reading, writing, studying, and speaking skills, and in the process to take risks, make mistakes, learn from those mistakes, and experience progress toward their goals.

RESPONSIBILITY and STUDENT SUCCESS

We value students' taking responsibility for their own learning as they internalize learning strategies and a sense of success and build on that for higher achievement, greater joy in life, and the opportunity to contribute positively to their community.

LIFELONG LEARNING

We value the role that reading, writing, and studying can play throughout a person's life to help them reach academic, professional, and personal goals.
