As part of developing a strategic plan Shoreline Community College will undertake an activity to identify important aspects of both our internal and external environment. In doing so we will identify the following:
Strengths: internal characteristics that are unique, special, highly valued, and positive.
Weaknesses: internal challenges that they face or limitations to achieve their mission and goals.
Opportunities: these occur when the external environment is closely aligned with an institutional strength. Aspects of the external environment that will create or accelerate a need or a capability that is or can be a strength of the organization.
Threats: these occur when the external environment actually or potentially reduces or eliminates a capability or need for a capability of an organization.
Any of these designations are subject to perception. What one individual may label a threat (rural location with few young people) could be viewed by another individual as a potential opportunity (marketing to older people and those attracted to a rural community); a strength (e.g. stable faculty) could be viewed as a weakness (resistant to change).
Thank you in advance for your insight and opinions. We will consolidate your thoughts which will become an integral part of Shoreline Community College's 2007 Strategic Plan.
