Student Programs
Opening
Doors

Bye-bye ice cream social, hello
Opening Doors. This year Student Activities planned a
new format to welcome new students, their families and
friends. On Wednesday, September 18th students learned
about faculty office hours, the Academic Skills Center,
Career Employment Services, the Artist and Lecture Series,
parking, smoking on campus, the Women's Center and much
more. The format was somewhat like a party, with small
groups talking one-on-one with faculty, staff and student
leaders to help students understand the systems that are in
place at the College to support their academic success and
adjustment to campus life. The resource people had
large silver keys around their necks so that students could
easily identify them. They answered questions and gave
students information cards about specific campus services
and events, which they put on key chains with all of the
keys to success at Shoreline. Student Leadership Team
members introduced themselves to students and offered the
Student Guides. They also gave campus tours and provided
information about student clubs. Several workshops
were offered by faculty members on what to expect during the
first week of class, and periodic tours of the campus were
provided by student leaders. Free munchies were
provided. Services for the disabled were available by
advance arrangement with the Student Programs Office.
