Placement Testing
Who has to take the placement test?
Anyone who intends to earn a degree or
certificate at Shoreline Community College needs to take the
COMPASS or ASSET test. If you have at least 35 credits from
other colleges, or if you have recent test scores (within the
past three years) you will not need to take the test.
Do I have to take the classes recommended by my test scores?
The classes recommended are usually your best
choice.
Assessment is a way of testing your level of knowledge in
certain subjects. This will give you and your advisor a way to
place you in appropriate classes.
You should discuss your course placement in Math
and English courses with your advisor.
Can I retake the test?
Yes, you can retake any section of the COMPASS
test anytime. However, you must wait
30 days before re-taking the ASSET. The cost is $15 each time.
If your score doesn’t improve even after you spend time
preparing for the test (some practice questions can be found at
http://act.org/compass), it is best to register for
the recommended course .Call
the Testing Center (located in the 5000 building) at (206)
546-4608, to schedule a retake.
