Basic course information

Class: Mon, Wed, Fri 12:30 pm - 1:20 pm @ CMU 230

Office: PDL C 422
Office hours: Tue, Thu 11:30 pm - 12:30 pm, PDL C 422 or by appointment.

Text: Introduction to Linear Algebra by Johnson, Riess and Arnold, 5th ed.

HW: Homework from the text will be assigned & collected every Monday. The current HW will be highlighted. All problems are of the same importance to build your computational and conceptual skills, though only assigned problems are to be handed in & some of them will be graded. Problems in brackets need not be turned in. But they are more interesting & should be tried. No late HW will be accepted unless with permission from the instructor. There will be 9 HW's & the worst score will be dropped. HW will make 10% of the total grades.

Exams: All exams will be at CMU 230. You can bring one page both sides hand written notes for the exam. You should not require a calculator as such. More on this closer to exam dates. Midterms will be during regular class hour & Final will be 8:30-10:20 am. There'll be no make-up exams in general. For some special situation, a make-up exam may be provided when the student's absence is notified 1 week before a midterm or 2 weeks before the final with proper reason. Otherwise, the missing exam is recorded as zero.

Midterm 1 April 23 Friday 25%
Midterm 2 May 21 Friday 25%
Final June 10 Thursday 40%
