Program Description
The Purchasing and Supply Chain
Management program is a unique and highly regarded program
designed both for those entering the field and professionals
seeking to upgrade their skills. The curriculum focuses on many
aspects of purchasing including source selection, pricing theory,
quality and quality assurance, logistics, supply chain management,
specifications and standardization, purchase timing, value
engineering, make-or-buy concepts and capital purchasing.
Students learn related business and
accounting practices such as standard policies and operating
procedures, negotiation techniques, planning, organizing, traffic
concepts and inventory control theory. In addition, students gain an
understanding of the legal aspects of purchasing and the Uniform
Commercial Code. Graduates will be qualified for employment in
purchasing positions in a variety of business settings including
manufacturing and construction companies, retail operations,
educational institutions and government offices. This program can be
completed entirely online.

Students
who successfully complete this program should be able to:
- Utilize
purchasing vocabulary and concepts related to source selection,
pricing, quality, negotiating strategies to effectively procure
goods and services.
- Apply
mathematical concepts in order to conduct price-cost analyses and
make appropriate purchasing decisions.
- Apply
principles of materials and contract management.
- Establish
and maintain systems to track and control inventory.
- Apply
principles of finance, accounting, international business,
logistics, business law, and economics to the field of purchasing
and supply chain management.
- Effectively
communicate verbally and in writing within a variety of business
environments.
