COURSE DESCRIPTION: "Techniques of fiction; analysis of short stories and novels."

PREREQUISITES: English 101.

REQUIRED BOOKS: An Introduction to Fiction (eighth edition) by Kennedy and Gioia, Journey to the End of the Night by Louis-Ferdinand Celine, Pouliuli by Albert Wendt, and The Lunatic by Anthony Winkler

COURSE ADAPTATIONS: If you need course adaptations or accommodations because of a disability, if you have emergency medical information to share with me, or if you need special arrangements in case the building must be evacuated, please inform me as soon as possible.

PLAGIARISM: To borrow other’s ideas and words without proper acknowledgment is a form of dishonesty known as "plagiarism." To avoid plagiarism you must cite all quotations, summaries and phrases as well as any facts or ideas which are not considered common knowledge. If I find a student has plagiarized, I will refer the matter to the Dean for Humanities, and the student will receive no credit for that assignment and have no opportunity to receive credit for that assignment.

ATTENDANCE AND PARTICIPATION: You are expected to attend class—your attendance is very important—and participate in class discussions and express your ideas while respecting the ideas of others. Punctual attendance of class and participation in class activities are essential to your academic success. If you are not able to go to class you are expected to make arrangements to pick up missed material or assignments. You are expected to read all the assigned material before the class meeting for which it is assigned.

SNOW POLICY: The College will not close as long as the campus parking lots, roadways and walks can be kept open. Should the College be forced to close, local AM radio stations -KING, KIRO, and KOMO will keep you informed.
