Academic Subject Areas Essay Assignment

•  Choose an academic subject area in which you have an interest (examples: Literature, Sociology, Zoology).
   

•  Ask yourself what is the subject of study of the academic discipline (examples: books, herds of people, animals).
   

• Find an example of that subject on campus.  (Look in the library, in the Pagoda Union Building, in the trees.)
   

• Write a careful, precise description of the example.
   

•  Ask yourself what elements of reasoning are employed within that discipline.
   

•  Use those elements to write a focused analytical essay using precise, detailed description and facts to support a well-reasoned analysis. Remember most analysis is comparison and/or effect/cause.
   

• Title the essay with a title that captures the unique essence of the essay.
   

• Type the Analysis Essay—2 to 4 pages double-spaced—with the following heading:
              Your Name
                  Sean Rody's English 90
                  Quarter, Year
                  (Write your Subject Area here) Essay
   

•  Fill out Analysis Essay Evaluation completely (including number of points earned and precise, detailed reasons why points are deserved).
   

•  Staple all pages together before coming to and turn in on ______.
