PROJECTS- what we want to accomplish
-Bowling for Brains: Teams bowl, proceeds go to scholarships for SCC
students. $160 entry fee can be taken from our budget. Takes place in mid April. Additional Information at http://www.shoreline.edu/foundation/bowling_for_brains1.htm.
-Induction Ceremony: Ceremony to officially honor new inductees to Phi Theta Kappa. We could purchase a specific number of graduation sashes and give them to the inductees at the ceremony...otherwise they'll have to purchase one themselves.
-Project Graduation: Phi Theta Kappa service project to collect books and canned food from people attending SCC's spring graduation ceremony. We need to appeal to the commencement committee to get permission to set this up at the ceremony. Additional Information at http://projectgraduation.org/news/currenthighlight.htm.
Next meeting: Thursday March 10, 12:30- 1:30 in the PUB Canteen
This is on April 14th from 6-10 pm at Spin Alley in Richmond Beach. The $160 fee per team will be covered by our Phi Theta Kappa budget and it goes toward scholarships for students who will be attending SCC in the future. There will be all-you-can-eat hor d'oeuvres and prizes!! Our team of four will be Megan, Emily, Sayaka and Zereay and our team name is The Parthenon so we're going to wear togas!!
PHI THETA KAPPA INDUCTION CEREMONY
We decided to have the ceremony on Tuesday May 24 at 6:30 pm in the Canteen. We'll invite new members and their friends and family will be welcome to come. Megan talked to President Holly Moore and she should be available to attend. We'd like to have an address from Holly, the club advisor and president. We'll have food (veggie trays, cheese and crackers...) and present people with their Phi Theta Kappa graduation sashes. Sayaka and Emily will be in charge of decorations, Megan will be in charge of food/budget, and Monica will talk to Lisa about reserving the canteen. We'll send out invitations to people with a request to RSVP to Shawn.
Monica registered our chapter for Project Graduation online and the Phi Theta Kappa National Office will supply us with flyers and posters and all sorts of good stuff to get the word out on campus that we're collecting books and canned food. We definitely want to extend the project longer than just graduation day, so we'll do it in the weeks surrounding graduation.
BULLETIN BOARD
Monica had the great idea of getting us a bulletin board in the PUB hallway where lots of clubs have space to post information about events, meetings, etc. She will talk to the people in the CAPS office to see if this can be arranged.
We won't meet this week or next due to finals and spring break so let's try to plan on having our next meeting the first week of spring quarter. I think we'll have to figure out a new meeting time because people's schedules are changing, but we can email each other with our availabilities and figure something out.
Thank you to Zereay, Sayaka and Rachel for coming to the last meeting! Good luck on finals everyone, and have a great spring break!
-Emily
Bowling for Brains was quite a success!! We had lots of fun hanging out in our togas and making fools of ourselves with our hideous bowling skills (except Sayaka!!- she was actually knocking down some pins!!)
BUDGET
Megan will fill out the forms for requesting a club budget of $2000-2500 for next year and I'll accompany her to the meeting to present our request.
NEW MEMBERS INDUCTION
We decided on May 24 from 6-8 pm for the ceremony. It'll be in the Canteen and what we need to work on now is getting out an invitation to all the new PTK members stating the date, time, place and general description of the program, which we think should go a little something like this:
-Address by Holly Moore, Shawn, me...except I hate speaking in front of people...Megan, I get the impression that you might be more suited for this...how do you feel about speaking at it?
-Presentation of PTK sash things which they will receive for FREE if they attend and will otherwise have to purchase themselves/ candle lighting/ any other cool thing we come up with...
-Food, cake (Monica suggested a cake...great idea...she knows a place to get a good, cheap one), mingling...
So, we should decide on a date by which we require an RSVP (and should we ask people to say how many people they plan on bringing when they RSVP?) so that we get an idea of how many people to expect, both for buying the sashes and figuring out catering. Shawn, I know we talked briefly about this...do you think you could send out an invitation and have people contact you to RSVP? What is a good date to require an RSVP by?
Monica has received the posters from Phi Theta Kappa headquarters. We just need to get them up around campus, set up donation boxes around campus and arrange for people to regularly check the boxes and bring the contents to a place to be picked up by a charity. Apparently the Action for Change club is doing something similar to this so I'm going to email someone with that club and see if we can coordinate...
MEETING TIME
So...Mondays seem to be the only time we all can meet. We kind of decided not to meet every week at the last meeting...we were thinking maybe every two weeks. However, I won't be available to meet on the 25th (a week from tomorrow). You guys could certainly meet without me though and do some work on the induction ceremony and project graduation. Let's just keep in touch through email and maybe we could meet on May 2...??
Thanks everyone!
-Emily
Shawn thinks we should anticipate about 50-60 students. We'll figure out the catering after the RSVP date (May 16). Monica, Shawn, Megan and I are going to meet on Wednesday at 1:30 in the canteen to put the invitations in envelopes and get them all ready to mail.
Budget:
We'll most likely have a $1000 baseline budget for next year and can ask for supplemental funds if necessary.
For this to happen, we need to figure out receptacles to place around campus, a schedule for emptying them and charities to come pick up the donations. I will work on these things this week. I'm going to email someone from action 4 change to see what charities they were donating to in their drive. We also need to find out if we can have Monica sitting at a table or something at commencement taking donations. Maybe on Wednesday after we prepare the invitations we can work on putting up the posters for Project Graduation...?
Thanks everyone.
-Emily

Service Projects
We had scheduled another day on the trails with the WTA for June 3rd, but had to postpone until June 16th due to transportation issues. This date will be cancelled if no members express interest in attending. If you'd like to volunteer, contact the Chapter president at shorelineptkpres@yahoo.com.
Chapter Officers needed!
With all of our current officers graduating, with the exception of the Chapter President, there are many opportunities for members to get involved with their chapter. Officer responsibilities should be reviewed before offering to fill a position - no longer will individuals be allowed to claim a position as a resume pad while failing to contribute and uphold their obligations.
Next meeting: Monday, June 11th, 1:00pm in room 1004 (Small Conference Room)
