A: Yes, you would join as a Provisional Member if your cumulative G.P.A. is 3.5 or higher or your SAT scores were 1100 or higher.

Q: Do I have to be a full-time student to join?
A: No, you can be a Member as a part-time student (5 credits) if you have completed 12 credit hours.

Q: What does my G.P.A. need to be to join Phi Theta Kappa?
A: To be an Active Member, your G.P.A. must be 3.5 or higher. To be a Provisional Member, you must have a G.P.A. of 3.2 or higher.

Q: What if my G.P.A. drops?
A: If your G.P.A. drops below a 3.2, you will become a Provisional Member on probation for one quarter. If your G.P.A. does not rise to a 3.2 or higher in one quarter, your membership will be terminated.

Q: Do I have to attend meetings and events in order to stay a member?
A: No, you do not need to attend Meetings and Events in order to remain a member, but it is encouraged.

Q: What if I cannot afford the $60 membership fee?
A: A scholarship may be available to members who are in need of financial assistance. Please see the Membership Page for further details.

Q: How will being a member of Phi Theta Kappa benefit me?
A: There are many Benefits to being a member. They include Scholarships and Letters of Recommendation to universities, graduate schools and prospective employers.

Q: Are the dues annual/yearly?
A: No, the dues are a one-time fee.

Q: Is Phi Theta Kappa the same as Phi Beta Kappa and will being a member of Phi Theta Kappa help me in joining Phi Beta Kappa?
A: Phi Theta Kappa is for two-year colleges. Phi Beta Kappa is an honor society for four-year colleges and universities and they are sister organizations. As a member of Phi Theta Kappa, it may be helpful in joining Phi Beta Kappa depending on the particular institution’s requirements.
