Puget Sound Consortium for Manufacturing Excellence
For Educators/Professional Development

The PSCME offers a series of professional development institutes for manufacturing technology educators and trainers on how to use the PSCME modular curriculum system. PSCME institutes are offered at various times throughout the year.

The Tri-Institute Summer Conference

The cross-disciplinary Tri-Institute Summer Conference was jointly sponsored by the organizations listed below. The goal was to share with K-12 and community and technical college instructors how to use the Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALRs) and Skill Standards to develop curriculum and assessments.

Conference facilitators provided these instructors with curriculum and assessment information at the beginning of the conference. Then, each instructor participated in a 3 day intensive technical workshop in either Virtual Manufacturing or Wed Design. On the final day, the instructors came together, broke into small groups and created presentations demonstrating how they would apply EALRs and Skill Standards in their classrooms.

The Tri-Institute scheduled a follow up meeting on Saturday, March 22, 2003. Instructors working towards University of Washington Extension credit (to clarify w/ Tom Stoebe) were required to attend. These instructors presented an oral report describing the module they developed with information gathered at the summer session. The presentations included how the module was trial tested and evaluated. Instructors also submitted information in a concise written report.

Those not earning credit were not required to attend, however, they were welcome to deliver a presentation as well.

The Tri-Institute Summer Conference was made possible through the combined efforts of the:

• Puget Sound Consortium for Manufacturing Excellence (PSCME),
• Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI),
• National Science Foundation (NSF),
• Educator-to-Educator IT Institute (E2E),
• Bellevue Community College (BCC);
• Lake Washington Technical College (LWTC);
• National Workforce Center for Emerging Technologies (NWCET);
