Community and technical college board to
consider capital budget request
OLYMPIA – The
State Board for Community and Technical Colleges will meet on June 21 and 22 to
consider the 2007-09 capital budget request as well as approve partner contracts
for the new fiscal year.
The Board will
consider a capital budget request totaling $520 million, compared to a 2005-07
request level of $470 million. The projects range from roof replacements and
renovations to new projects to meet growing enrollment demand.
“The capital budget
request seeks a balance between using existing space to its fullest capacity,
modernizing space to keep up-to-date with high-tech programs, and expanding to
meet increasing needs for longer term enrollment,” Executive Director Charlie
Earl said. “Science and professional health programs need the latest technology
and facility capacity for program expansion.”
The Board will conduct
a work session on June 21 to review the framework for the 2007-09 operating
budget, including the content and structure of the request. The Board will vote
on the formal operating budget request during its September meeting. The Work
session will also include a discussion about the system direction and a report
from the State Board nominating committee.
During a study session
on June 21, the Board will review the staff work plan and the Workforce Training
and Education Coordinating Board study. The Board will also review the capital
budget request, and WorkFirst and federal workforce awards and allocations prior
to its vote during the regular meeting the following day.
During the regular
meeting, the State Board will approve contracts for online education
technologies, Washington Online, business/industry training needs, labor
liaisons, corrections education, healthcare partnerships and the Transition Math
Project. The Board will also consider approving a student athlete operating fee
waiver. Walla Walla Community College will give a presentation as the host
college.
The State Board will
meet with the executive director during breakfast on June 21 to discuss
leadership/development issues at the Marcus Whitman Hotel, 6 West Rose Street,
Walla Walla. The Board’s work session is scheduled from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The study session is scheduled from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. The regular meeting is
scheduled from 8:15 to 11:00 a.m. on June 22. All meetings will take place at
the Walla Walla Community College Conference Center, Room 185 A/B, 500 Tausick
Way, Walla Walla. From 6 to 8 p.m. on June 21, the Board will have dinner with
the Walla Walla Community College president, trustees and staff at the Center
for Enology and Viticulture on the Walla Walla Community College campus. There
will be no resulting action. All meetings are open to the public.
