The public is invited to tour the Zero
Energy House (ZEH) at Shoreline Community College
on Wednesdays and Saturdays over the next four weeks. ZEH
Construction Manager Brian Mast will answer general questions
about the structure, its design, and how the design can be
incorporated into new buildings. The tours will be offered from
1 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays, beginning October 20th and
on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., beginning October 24th.
Community organizations may schedule private tours as well by
calling Mast at 206.280.8167.

Food
Stamp Employment & Training (FSET) Program at Shoreline
Community College provides free tuition and services to students who
are food stamp assistance recipients but not receiving WorkFirst
Cash.

The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges
has endorsed a proposed professional-technical program, “High
Performance and Zero Energy Building Practices,” a pathway
certificate program to be offered at Shoreline Community College
beginning Fall Quarter 2008. For information about the program,

Shoreline Community College International Programs presents a
lecture by Executive Director of the Washington State China
Relations Council, Joseph J. Borich, from 9:30 to 10:20 a.m.,
Tuesday, November 27, 2007. The ‘Leaders in the Classroom’
event will be held on the main campus in the 1100 Building in room
1102. The lecture is free to the public.

10-quarter nursing
program beginning September, 2008. The 10-quarter program, created
in response to the ongoing nursing shortage, was designed for
students who cannot enroll in the College’s traditional six-quarter
Nursing Program due to schedule conflicts.

Automotive Training and Career Opportunities Partnership (ATCOP) at
Shoreline Community College (SCC) has received a
Governor’s Award for Best Practices
in workforce development for the College’s General Service
Technician (GST) training program. This honor, awarded by the
Workforce Training and Education Coordinating Board, WTB,
(www.wtb.wa.gov)
recognizes local and regional agencies, organizations, and
community and technical colleges for their leadership and excellence
in design, program, and results in workforce development.

Shoreline Community College offers
wine appreciation classes with an
emphasis on wines that tie to place and culture. Enjoy “lips on”
training at these classes. Instructor Jeff Omalanz-Hood has been a
gourmet cook and wine connoisseur for over 18 years. Classes meet
on Shoreline Community College’s main campus at 16101 Greenwood
Avenue North in Shoreline.

Shoreline
CC is
currently accepting applications for the new 10-quarter nursing

have found a full-time load too challenging, and who learn best
with a slightly slower pace. Students may submit applications

Shoreline Community College
Prof. David Starr has been awarded DECA’s highest honor,
“Honorary Life Member,” for
his dedication and service to the goals of the student
leadership organization. DECA is an international association of
college and high school students studying marketing, management
and entrepreneurship that supports skill development and
competence for marketing careers. The award is given to only one
individual a year.

Shoreline Community College presents a
fully-staged and costumed new one-act version of Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart’s The Magic Flute, adapted and translated
by Glenn Guhr at the
Opera Workshop Performances at
7:30pm, February 28-29 and March 1, 2008. The adaptation will
be performed at the Campus Theater with chamber orchestra and
include arias, duets and ensembles. Scenes from opera’s most
glorious late-romantic composers and an excerpt from the latest
opera by Drs. Gloria Swisher and Willy Clark will also be
performed with piano accompaniment by Dr. Charles Enlow.

Education and Skills Training) Program for Spring Quarter 2008.
These short-term professional-technical classes offer ESL and
GED instruction while providing basic skills training for
entry-level, living wage, high-demand jobs.

The Athletic Department at Shoreline
Community College is pleased to announce that
Butch Estes has been hired as the men’s basketball coach.
Estes has more than 30 years coaching experience at the
college/university level; most recently as assistant coach at
Seattle University.

Paintings by former local artist, Lun-Yi
Tsai are on display in a solo exhibition at the College Gallery
at Shoreline Community College through the month of April. In
“Transition
Gadgets,” Tsai’s works are painted with wax colors
and fixed with heat. The images are inspired by the vivid colors
of his new home in Miami.

world-class pianists, Betty Mallard and David Renner, at 3 p.m.,
Sunday, April 20, 2008 in the Campus Theater at Shoreline
Community College.

The public is invited to enjoy activities
during
Earth Week 2008 at Shoreline
Community College, April 21-25. The Environmental Club, Worldly
Philosophers and Dismal Scientists Society (WPDDS), Student
Government and the Sustainability Committee worked together to
organize a week of guest speakers, documentaries and videos to
educate our community about what we can do to support a clean
and healthy environment.

The public is invited to an artist
reception at Shoreline Community College, Thursday, May 8, from
3 to 5 p.m. in the College Gallery.
The exhibit features the paintings, drawings, sculpture,
photography and ceramics of art students who will graduate with
Associate of Fine Arts degrees this year. The exhibit runs from
May 1 – 30, 2008.

The last time John Troxel performed in Shoreline he was in Ken
Noreen’s band at Shoreline High School. Noreen was his band
teacher at Richmond Beach Elementary and Butler Junior High
before that. Troxel, now a member of the U.S. Marine Band,
returns to Shoreline May 20th to reunite with Noreen, who is
currently director of the Shoreline Concert Band at Shoreline
Community College, to perform in the college’s
annual spring concert.

It’s always impressive when students work hard and excel in
their studies. Recently, Shoreline
Community College business students went beyond stellar grades,
and
won a number of awards at an international career
development conference. On top of that, two SCC business
professors also won awards.

Recently, Toyota T-TEN students and grads met their instructors
at Qwest Field to celebrate a big win at a party hosted by
Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. The big win came earlier this year
when the college’s
Toyota T-TEN program was selected as one
of only five programs nationwide to receive the 2007 T-TEN
School Recognition Award from Toyota Motor Sales.

at the 10th Annual Hazel Wolf Environmental Film Festival, May
1-4 at Johnson Hall at the University of Washington.
Winslow shares her filmmaking knowledge
and expertise at “The Art of the Interview for Documentary
Films,” Saturday, May 3, from 2 to 5 p.m.
