Overview
Shoreline Community College offers the most comprehensive Instrumental Music Program among the state's community colleges. Offerings include large and small ensemble opportunities in classical, jazz and contemporary studies. SCC Jazz Ensemble
The SCC Jazz Ensemble performs works from the libraries of the classic big-bands as well as contemporary arrangements and student compositions. The ensemble records, tours and performs frequently throughout the Northwest. Directed by Doug Reid, dreid@shoreline.edu.
Shoreline Concert Band
The Shoreline Concert Band is now in its twenty-first year of operation. The 80 piece band was founded in 1984 to offer community members an opportunity to perform in a quality concert band alongside Shoreline Community College students. The Shoreline Concert Band performs quarterly concerts at the Shorecrest Performing Arts Center and provides music for the college's annual Commencement Ceremony in June. Funk 'n Groove
Funk 'n Groove is a performance troupe which provides opportunities for students to perform and record song compositions and arrangements in styles typical of commercial radio airplay from the 1970's to present. This group performs a full range of music including acoustic folk, country swing, jazz, and funk. The Funk 'n Groove troupe includes horn sections, instrumental soloists, singers, guitar, bass, drums and percussionists. Directed by Bruce Spitz, bspitz@shoreline.edu.
SCC Small Ensembles
Shoreline Community College is proud to offer a diverse Small Ensembles curriculum. All ensembles listed below perform works from current repertory and provide students the opportunity to arrange, compose and direct. The ensembles perform on campus quarter as well as at festivals and schools throughout the region. Open to all students and community members by audition.
