After a few years of administrative work post-college, Jaclyn decided to make a career change into the audio industry so she could put her music background to work. After researching the programs available in Seattle, she decided to attend Shoreline Community College's Digital Audio Engineering Program. Jaclyn started internships around Seattle during her second year at Shoreline, and eventually got offered a job with Flying Lab Software. She currently works there as a full-time Sound Designer on the video game Pirates of the Burning Sea. Attending Shoreline's program gave her the tools she needed to get started, and continues to be a valuable resource for her within the audio community.
Jonathan Kingham must be doing something right. In his first few years on the scene, he has quickly developed into a seasoned performer while sharing the stage with the likes of Shawn Colvin, Michael McDonald, Doug Stone, Vanessa Carlton, Jonatha Brooke, and David Wilcox, and recent tours have found him on the road with such diverse acts as Julio Iglesias Jr. and Glen Phillips of Toad the Wet Sprocket. But its not only his live performances that are winning him fans and accolades. He took 1st place honors in the National Telluride Troubadour Songwriting Contest, The Unisong International Song Contest, as well as placing two years in a row in the top five of the John Lennon Song contest. He brought home the 1st Place award in the USA Songwriting Competition in the Folk Category as well as the Overall Grand Prize out of a worldwide field of 33,000 entries. His singing has been featured in films, soap operas and even the WB network's hit show Felicity. In 2003 he inked a development deal with Universal South Records and is currently writing and recording with some of the top writers and players in Nashville.
Chris' band Key Note Speaker recently recorded their second album at Soundhouse Studios with Jack Endino. Upon graduating from Shoreline Chris completed an internship at Bad Animals Recording Studios and is now working as a freelance engineer on various projects with local bands.
Soon after graduating in the spring of 2005, Jason responded to ad on Craigslist.com advertising a contract position working at Microsoft Game Studios as a sound designer on a race-car game. Being a car enthusiast and recent Shoreline audio engineering graduate, it seemed fitting, to say the least. A couple of interviews later he found himself getting paid to have fun doing what he enjoys and what he studied at SCC. He is excited to be pursuing this field as a career path, and “couldn't do it without the knowledge gained in Shoreline's audio program.”
Shane is currently a quarter away from graduating from the UW with a self designed degree in Creative Processes. It is a mix of psychology, philosophy, music composition, english composition, digital arts and experimental media, and anything to do with understanding creativity as a process. He is hoping to continue his education with a Masters of Science in Creativity, Problem solving and change leadership at Buffalo University in New York.
Nicole Yoshioka earned her Digital Audio Engineering degree in 2005. She chose Shoreline CC because of the reputation of the program.
“I called local studios and asked them where their employees had gone to school and they mentioned SCC, so I signed up the first chance I got.”
When Nicole started studying at Shoreline CC, she realized that she had made the right choice. “There was a great balance of lecture and hands-on classes. I was able to apply what I had read about through projects which helped me retain the information a lot better than just taking a simple test.” Nicole also appreciated the creativity that her instructors encouraged her to use on her class projects. “As students, we really took ownership of them.”
The faculty made a positive impact on Nicole’s experience and academic success at Shoreline. “I loved my teachers. They were inspiring, supportive, helpful, and had a genuine interest in my success. I felt like they were more my mentors instead of just teachers.” Nicole continues to keep in touch with her instructors and a few of the students she met while studying at SCC.
“I always tell people that it was the best school experience I ever had.”
After graduating, Nicole felt confident to get involved in the business side of music and now manages a band (most of the members were in the same program at SCC). She has gotten to know a number of people in the local music scene and now books shows/tours for her band.
Nicole is currently applying at four-year institutions to finish her bachelor’s degree in music management.
“A whole new world has opened up to me because of who I met at Shoreline – teachers and students alike.”
