Getting Connected with the University of Washington For those of you interested in transferring to the University of Washington (UW, pronounced “UDub” for short), my advice is: get familiar with their web site. This is the primary source of communication for the UW both before and after you arrive. Secondly: go to the campus and meet with advisors there. Thirdly: meet again with your advisor here at Shoreline CC to chart your course. • The UW homepage www.washington.edu provides an excellent search option and also a directory, both of which will help you find what you need. • UW Admissions at Seattle Day Programs, link for Transfer students: http://admit.washington.edu/BeforeYouApply/Transfer This is your place to look up Admission Requirements, Academic Planning Worksheets for each major, Equivalency Guide, the actual Application, Virtual Tour, and more. Be sure to review the details of the Core Admission Requirements because your Associates degree does not automatically fulfill those requirements. • If English is not your first language, there are specific details about meeting the Core Subject Admission Requirement for English http://admit.washington.edu/BeforeYouApply/Transfer/Requirements/Core/English and also the English Language Proficiency Requirement http://admit.washington.edu/BeforeYouApply/Transfer/Requirements/EnglishProficiency you will need to know about and meet. • The Transfer Thursday Program offers advising and information meetings every week: http://admit.washington.edu/Visit/TransferThursdays • For the schedule of additional information meetings by departments and programs, such as Architecture, Business, Law school, Medicine, Nursing and more go to http://www.washington.edu/students/ugrad/advising/advinfos.html • You are encouraged to look up information about the UW departments you are interested in and meet with the advisors there while you are studying at the community college. This will help you plan your CC courses to prepare for your major, which in turn will help you be successful in your field, saves you time and money, and also will make your application to the UW stronger. Here is a list of colleges and departments with links to their web sites: http://www.washington.edu/home/departments/departments.html
