History
Overview
History is the study of the past and of change
over time. It is also a discipline – a
particular way of learning how to interpret
factual evidence and shape it into a narrative
that tells us why things happened as they did.
At SCC, students who take history courses learn
to ask questions about the past that allow them
to analyze and understand how people lived in
the past and the complex interplay between those
people and the societies they created. The
study of history helps students to understand
how and why human societies have developed and
changed over the years.

Areas of Study
We offer a wide variety of courses in American, East Asian, European, and World history.
Classes are offered in different formats, both
on-campus at either the main campus or the Lake
Forest Park campus and online. On-campus classes
are scheduled throughout the day with morning,
afternoon, and evening offerings. Some of

Generally, all history courses taught at
Shoreline transfer to four-year institutions
for social science credit. Most history
courses also meet degree, major, and minor
requirements at transfer institutions.

East Asia Courses|
Classes offered this quarter
Designed to provide students with a broad
liberal arts background of study during their
first and second years of college with an
emphasis on history. The state’s two-year and
four-year schools developed transfer
agreements that allow students from a
community college to transfer at least 90
credits (60 semester credits) to a four-year
college or university. The degrees satisfy
some – or all – general requirements for a
bachelor’s degree.
