Here are the types of eLearning classes at Shoreline:
Online Courses
These classes give students access to learning anywhere they have access to a computer and the Internet. Students can view course materials, participate in discussions, and interact with their instructor and fellow students. Shoreline students can access their online courses through a number of campus-based computer labs, as well as through any computer with a reliable Internet connection.
Online courses have stop and start dates, just like on-campus courses at Shoreline. Online courses also have regular assignments and project due dates, but students can do their course work at place most convenient to them. Some courses have required online meeting times.
These features make online courses more convenient than on-campus courses, but they are not easier. Even though attendance may not be required at a specific time each day, students will need to work in the online classroom five out of every seven days. Students should plan on twelve to fifteen hours of class work each week for each course. Online classes are reading and writing intensive.
Online Classes are listed as Section N classes.

Hybrid Courses
Hybrid Classes offer students a mixture of on-campus and online learning experiences, usually with at least one on-campus meeting per week. Why choose a Hybrid class? You get face-to-face, personal interaction with your instructor and other students. Plus, you can access your class on your own schedule. You spend more time learning and less time traveling to campus or looking for a parking space.
Hybrid Classes are listed as Section Y classes.

Web Enhanced
Most face-to-face courses require some Internet content. These take place on the college campus at set times and use some online content. Online resources are used to supplement the on-campus instruction and do not reduce the requirement for on-campus classroom attendance.
Web Enhanced classes at SCC do not have an additional eLearning fee and are listed as Section S classes.

Video Courses
Video Classes are are part of Shoreline's eLearning program. They are based on a video series that is enhanced by materials and learning activities developed by the instructor. Like other eLearning courses, video courses offer busy students flexible scheduling options. Video courses require at least one class meeting and sometimes meet as often as once a week. Course videos may be checked out from the Library/Media Center or viewed in the Library.
Video Classes are listed as Section V classes. For questions about Video Classes, contact the Library/Media Center at 206-546-4529.

WAOL
WAOL courses are part of a state wide consortium. This means your instructor might be in Spokane, and your classmates might be in Yakima, Olympia, or Ellensburg. Students register for WAOL online courses through Shoreline Community College, which collects tuition, grants course credit, and confers any certificates or degrees. All WAOL classes are taught exclusively on the Internet using the ANGEL course management system.
For more information, visit our WAOL web page or the WashingtonOnline (WAOL) website.
