Campus closed
There will be no school on
President’s Day (Monday,
February 18.) It is a federal holiday
to remember and honor the
birthdays of our county’s first
President, George Washington,
as well as President Abraham
Lincoln. President’s day is known
more as a day off from school, to
possibly go enjoy a number of
big money discounts, and sales
at various shopping centers.
Most communities present
historical celebrations honoring
Purple Heart recipients and
local veterans.
Blanket drive for the homeless
Phi Theta Kappa is having a lanket drive
from Feb. 8 to Mar. 8. Some donation sites will
be in the library, the gym and the bookstore.
Just look for red boxes around campus.
All donated blankets will go the Union
Gospel mission, who will distribute them to
the homeless. The Union Gospel Mission
has a search-and-rescue van that goes out
at night to distribute blankets to the less
fortunate. (For more information abut
the search-and-rescue van, visit www.
ugm.org.)
Many of these people have unexpected
medical problems and mounting bills
that leave them out of a job. Without
work, entire families can be forced out
to the streets. Please bring in your spare
blankets. Just one blanket can make a
difference for a human being hovering
between life and death on a cold winter
night.
