Safety and Security procedures
are posted in many areas
around campus. However, there
are many members of the SCC
community who aren’t familiar
with campus-wide alarms.
This entity of SCC technology
isn’t intended for frequent use.
But nevertheless, it can be useful
for students and staff alike to be
prepared for their arrival and to
know how to respond when these
security alarms take over the
campus.
To provide for you, readers,
The Ebbtide has compiled the following
list of SCC security alarm
protocol, courtesy of SBA President
Ivanhoe and http://www.
shoreline.edu/safetyandsecurity/
armedintruderprocedures.htm:
•If there is a fire on campus,
then a continuous bell will be
administered. At this time, all
buildings are to be evacuated.
•A repeating series of five
short blasts accompanied by a
momentary pause indicates that
there may be an intruder on campus.
Students and staff should respond
by assuming a campuswide
lockdown. Close and lock
all doors and windows. Lower
blinds, turn off lights and remain
quiet until SCC Safety and Security
personnel arrive to evacuate
the campus.
•Any other alarms that do not
resemble the fire alarm should
be treated as a lockdown. Follow
the steps listed above.
•If there is a bomb threat, no
alarm will be administered. Instead,
SCC Safety and Security
personnel will be on-scene to escort
students and staff to safety.
