As the season winds to a close, the playoff picture for the men's season is becoming clearer as time progresses and the women's becomes foggier.

The Shoreline Community College men's basketball team is sitting two games shy of first place and two games ahead of fourth place Whatcom Community College. The week of Feb. 13 Shoreline will battle Peninsula and Bellevue in what promise to be big games in determing the final seeding picture for the north division.

Jason Goodwin drops the trey

The Lady Dolphins are currently in a three way tie for second place with Olympic and Bellevue. All three teams sit a game behind Skagit Valley and a game up on Everett.

Most recently the Dolphins swept Everett Community College. The men won 102-86 in overtime. Leading the way for Shoreline was Delvaughn Tinned with 33 points and Maurice Reed with 21 Points and 7 rebounds. Sean Tracey also contributed 15 points and Brandon Anderson 13 points and 7 rebounds.

The women were victorious, 80- 60 over Everett. Melissa Evans led scoring with 24 points and Tashara Simpson had 19. Ophelia Whitfield had 17 points and 15 rebounds and was a couple assists and steals away from a quadruple double. Whitney Voight neared a double-double with 15 points and 8 rebounds.

The previous game would not turn out as planned for either team, as Whatcom swept both of them. The men lost 93-84, despite a 15-point contribution by Ricky Washington, Brandon Anderson's 17 points and 9 boards, and a Shoreline leading, 23- point effort from Delvaughn Tinned.

The women had an off night as well, scoring only 54 points as a team, with almost half coming from Ophelia Whitfield's 25 points and 9 rebounds. Shaundra Johnson dominated down low pulling in ten rebounds.

Wednesday Feb 15, Shoreline took on Peninsula Community College with women’s action starting at 5:30.

With the women’s basketball team winning by a score of 59-54, the women are now tied for first place in the North division of the NWAACC.

Tashara Simpson, Melissa Evans, and Whitney Voigt all stepped up to give Shoreline the win they needed. Simpson finished with 21 points, Evans with 19, and Voigt getting the double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

The men’s game followed against an undefeated Peninsula men’s team. Shoreline being such a dominant home-court team, won the game by a score of 88-78. This win is huge for Shoreline, for the upcoming games will decide the final playoff seeding.

Shoreline had five players in the double digits for scoring. Jason Goodwin had 10 points, Maurice Reed 13, Sean Tracey 14, Ricky Washington 17, and Delvaughn Tinned having a 23 point break-out game to give Shoreline the extra boost needed to beat a powerful Peninsula team. Next game is scheduled for Feb. 22 against Bellevue Community College.
