With nine games remaining in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) Shoreline Community College (SCC) is battling on both the men’s and women’s side to make the playoffs. Both are in the hunt and neither wants to settle for the last spot in the division. Both teams would rather win out and secure a good seat for the NWAACC playoffs rather than waiting on the outcomes of other games to decide their fate.

Sophomore Maurice Reed flies above the rim for a rebound.
The Lady Dolphins currently sit in second place tied in the North Division with Olympic carrying a record of 4-3. Both teams are a game out of first place behind Everett, Bellevue, and Skagit who all hold a 5-2 record in league play. The women won two big games against North Seattle and Olympic to share second place. With slow offensive starts in each game and being under “wo”manned then most teams, they have battled and played consistently well all season.
SCC has yet to play against each of the three teams that are currently in first place, with two of those games coming up at home against Skagit Valley and Bellevue. The SCC men’s team has recently averaged about 100 points in the last four games at home and will hopefully carry that momentum into the final stretch as the season closes.
This has been a good year for the men’s team, but there hasn’t been one player who has dominated the team like a Kobe Bryant, but are playing well as a team and continually getting better each game on all aspects of the game. Every game, different players will step up and put in their effort to produce a win for SCC.

Ophelia Whitfield posterizes a defender for the score.
At the end of January, the men’s team is in third place by themselves, two games out of first and a game ahead of Whatcom and Olympic who sit tied for fourth place. Sitting pretty and undefeated in first place during league play is Peninsula 7-0, followed by Bellevue only a game back, and one game in front of SCC. The second full week of February will be a big one when SCC is at home against both Peninsula and Bellevue.
SCC has only four home games left and needs all the support they can get. The team is always looking for new crowds to bring the noise, all whilst appreciating the faithful diehards who have been there every game.
Women’s games start at 5:30, followed by men’s games at 7:30. In addition, these games are more exciting then Sonics and you can see the players from anywhere in the gym. Come out and show your support for the home team.
