Dolphin Baseball

As the Major League
Baseball season is coming to an end with the champion series and the World
Series, Shoreline Community College's baseball season starts up along with
all other colleges. With already three weeks under their belt, they're
looking to be a much better team than the previous year.
Last year,
Shoreline had a tough year. They look to gain more offense and replace a
roster of solid pitchers - including male athlete of the year Doug
Montgomery. He has moved on the University where he is currently on their
fall team. Also, Dustin Gilmore is playing at University of Hawaii-Hilo.
Pitchers Matt Mills, Steve Quealey and Sam Wimer have also graduated.
At the
start of this year's fall practices there were about 60 kids looking to fill
spots on the roster, as compared to about only 35 people last year. During
the off season, the Dolphins were able to recruit and sign 10 players to
letters of intent to play at Shoreline. This year the Dolphins return nine
players from last year's club including pitcher David Diltz, outfielders
Eric Christopherson and Anthony Schlumpf, and infielders Brit Ray, Tim
McAllister, Josh Olson, A.J. Collins, Gavin McHugh, and Adam Starr.
During
the fall, Shoreline plays four other teams two or three times. Their
opponents are Grays Harbor College, Green River Community College, the
Seattle Bombers, and Rijo Athletics. On the Oct. 9, Shoreline competed
against the Grays Harbor Chokers and the Seattle Bombers. They sent one half
of their squad down to Aberdeen and the other half stayed in Seattle to play
the Bombers at Lower Woodlawn. Both squads won their 2 games against the
other teams making their record 4-0 to start the fall season. On Oct. 15,
they beat the Green River Gators in all three of their seven inning games.
To end the season they spilt two games with Rijo Athletics finishing the
fall season eight wins to one loss which is a complete opposite of how last
fall went for them.
Good luck during the real season beginning in the
spring
