Opera Workshop Performances

The annual Opera Workshop Performances will be held at the SCC Little Theater Feb. 27 and 28 and March 1 at 7:30 p.m.

There will be operatic scenes with piano accompaniment, and the presentation of Giacomo Puccini's Suor Angelica performed with chamber orchestra.

Ticket prices are as follows: $12 for general admission, $10 for seniors, and $8 for children 14 and younger and SCC students with college ID.

Puget Sound Starlight Beachwalk

The People for Puget Sound are having a beach walk at 9:30 tonight at Golden Gardens Beach in Seattle.

An opportunity to observe and learn about creatures that live in Puget Sound and to learn about their habitat.

The People for Puget Sound is a non-profit group working to protect Puget Sound and the Northwest Straits though education and action.

Bring a flashlight and waterproof shoes. RSVP by calling 382-7007.

Valentines for troops

Beginning Feb. 7, Valentines for Troops will distribute Valentines to U.S. troops on bases throughout the world.

Last year the program started by three southern California businessmen distributing over 250,000 Valentines and Valentine e-mails and they hope for one million Valentines this year.

Relay for life

On Feb. 1 from 1-2 p.m. there will be a kick-off for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life at Third Place Commons.

The Shoreline/North Seattle Relay for Life will be May 17 and 18 at Shoreline Stadium.

The Relay for Life is a 12-24 hour gathering and walk to support cancer patients, honor those who lost their lives to cancer, and fight for the elimination of cancer.

Student forum will tackle religious understanding and tolerance

The Student Government-sponsored all-student forum, "Many Paths," will be held on Thursday, Feb. 6th @ 9:30 thru 11:30 in room 2308.

The panel will tackle the issue of religious understanding and tolerance on campus, will have-as its goal-an increased awareness of other religious, as well as a chance to point out some of our similarities, instead of our differences.

Free workshops on library research

The library will offer several free workshops for students and employees Winter Quarter. All workshops are in Room 4214, in the Library.

Classes are: Library Research Basics - Students get a tour of the library and a basic overview of the reference collection, online catalog and online periodical databases. Wednesday, Feb. 5 at 11:30 am and Friday, Feb. 21, 11:30 am; Finding Articles: Students get a more in-depth instruction in online database searching, including using boolean operators and field limiting, and accessing on Friday, Feb. 7, 12:30 pm and Thursday, Feb. 13, 11:30 am; Searching the Web: Beyond Surfing - This workshop provides useful strategies for focusing your Web search and evaluating the sources you find on the Web. Thursday, Feb. 13, 12:30 pm and Friday, Feb. 21, 12:30 pm.

SCC faculty, administrators to go to China

In October President Holly Moore and VP Darlene Miller traveled to China and became acquainted with a number of possible opportunities for faculty and student exchange, contract training, and distance learning.

Moore is committed to exploring new relationships with colleges in China along with other colleges who participated in the October mission. As a result, the College will send a small group of administrators and faculty to present at a conference in Beijing in June. Faculty and administrators who will be attending and presenting are Paul Duernberger, Norma Goldstein, Shalin Hai-Jew, Mark Hankins, Donna Miller-Parker and Jane Winslow.
