From My Window
by Forest Roy
from my window
i look down
through panes at Autumn
over a battlefield of incandescent colors
puzzles of sifted light
and tempests of mad leaves
rush for the front lines
to lie against Earth's breast like fallen matches flickering
spent in dramatic repose
above a tree
once taught the truths of seasons
and now speaks proudly of her brave children
each pining for absolution
so soon to come
with the hand of God in every limb
it is said
and the soldiers of autumn realize
that there is no greater glory
than that of natural beauty
Terror, Terror, Everywhere
Post 9/11 and pre-restoration of civility and Civil Rights
by Paul Cerda
Terror ties tongues in knots
hides in shoes
falls from sealed envelopes
lays silent in brown paper bags
in parked cars and under park benches.
Terror prompts people to turn in their neighbors
and the government to restrict rights in a rush to "protect citizens"
from the terror of Saddam Osama and Al Qaida Abu Sayaf North Korea
Jemah Islamiyah and anyone who won't follow orders from the red white and blue.
"If you're not with us, you're against us!"
Meanwhile terror runs rampant in corportate bardsrooms and bedrooms.
It assaults the Dow and Nasdaq with shredded paper trails and false profits.
Everyday reveals revelations of a bull that was always a bear
And CEO's growing fat while avoiding prosecution.
Beware! Beware ! The Terror!
As long as terror is foreign and foreboding
Corporate corruption will continue.
While we hunt for white vans white powder shoe bombs
and things that go bump in the night corporate kings
fill their coffers and funnel funds to offshore accounts
So which is more terrible?
Lost lives lost rights and lost nest eggs
Or gained fears?
