From Anon:
As a student, I feel a responsibility to share my perspective. Shoreline Community College need to stop spending so much of my money on the Multicultural / Diversity Center.
This facility only perpetuates victimization of minorities. Why encourage self-segregation?
In my opinion, this campus need not concern itself with the sensitivities of the seventies. In today's world affirmative action is behind us and throwing good money after bad to support programs which are only available to a 'select' few students.
I am certainly not calling for a return to the discriminatory times of the early half of the the 20th century. We are past that.
Wouldn't it be more prudent to promote equality among the student body? Pointing out our differences only pushes us farther apart. To fully embrace diversity, students should interact as peers.
I am considered 'white' and I pay my student activity fees like everyone else; but, feel the Multicultural / Diversity Center is not available to me because of my skin color. How can I learn to appreciate and accept other cultures when they take my money with nothing in return?
I realize this is not politically correct. But it needs to be said.
I appreciate you running this in anonymity for I fear ostracism from other students.
