Earth Week 2015: Fostering an Ethic of Place

April 19-25

This year’s Earth Week seeks to explore our relationship with the place that Shoreline calls home, by opening our eyes to the history of our campus, examining our roles in this community, and envisioning what we can do in the future to create a more equitable, economical, and environmentally just community, with the end goal of reaching sustainability.

Happening Most of the Month

Gray Whale made from plastic bags will be in the PUB lobby from April 13 to April 30th. Recology CleanScapes Shoreline’s recycling and garbage hauler since 2008 acquired the Gray Whale this past fall from Thurston County, and it’s migration to Shoreline and into our PUB took a collaborative effort between our very own night shift janitorial staff and Recology CleanScapes. Displaying the Plastic Whale Project is an exciting opportunity to support the College’s Earth Week 2015 programming, and to promote sustainability and environmental stewardship in Shoreline and beyond.

Happening All Week

Electronics Recycling will take place in 3 locations on our campus. There will be a box in the lobby of the 2800 Building, the Theatre Lobby, and in the PUB lobby under the head of the Gray Whale made from plastic bags.

The Recycled Art Show originated to highlight student art work that is related to the environment. Two forms of art may be entered into the show, pre-made (photos, paintings and sculpture) and art work made of recycled materials in the PUB Monday through Thursday of Earth Week from 10am to 2pm in room 9102 on the first floor of the PUB across from the bookstore. All finished work will be displayed in the QDR during Earth Week. PUB 1st Floor Room 9102, exhibited in QDR.
