Student Bio:

His camera turns the focus on history
Former SCC Student Body President Shaun Scott highlighted in UW diversity pub
The UW's spring edition of Viewpoints, the Face of Diversity, featured former SCC Student Body President, Shaun Scott. Scott, 22, a history major at the UW, has shot five short documentaries on race relations and local history. Three of his social issues films were included in the UW's Seattle Civil Rights and Labor History Project. Scott pursues filmmaking as a hobby.

His 2004 film, "Body and Soul" is a comparative analysis of Jews and blacks. His latest film, "The End of Old Days," takes a look at the last 100 years of African American community building and civil rights activism in Seattle. He generally focuses his work on local authors and professors which provides his work with a local sentiment.

Students

Students from around the country, from all over the world, with all levels of experience, have come here to pursue their interests in theatre and film and video. At the Shoreline Community College Drama and Cinema Department, we provide the focused education and training you'll need to become part of the next generation of visual artists.

But there's more to our program than just what you'll learn while you're here. Our students have gone on to pursue successful careers in Seattle, New York, Los Angeles and many places in between. But wherever they go, they stay in touch with us-- and each other. That's why we can safely say that during your time here, you'll discover and nurture contacts that will provide you with a life-long network of collaborators and friends.

Along side SCC's Drama, Cinema, Digital Filmmaking, and Communications departments Shoreline students have a variety of other programs to enhance their training opportunities in the Art/Visual Communications Technology Department students can explore photography, graphic design, web design, animation, and video editing using Final Cut Pro (we use Avid Xpress Proi Video Editing Software which is the film/TV production standard). In the Music Music/Tech Department they can study voice and diction, perform in Operas and the Musicals, and study audio engineering and sound design. We urge students to take advantage of those resources as well.

Local reviewers have called the SCC productions comparable to professional theater--so that gives you an idea that we believe that our students can create work as powerful and passionate work as anyone in the entertainment industry today. We know. It's a goal we've seen realized over and over. The theater and film productions are the keystone training of the program.

All Students Learn by Doing: Productions and Projects

For all students, putting the skills, craft and theory into practice is the best training. We emphasize the making of productions in all our work. Each quarter, Fall through Summer, film and stage productions rehearse, shoot or perform under the direction of professionals or advanced students.

Casts, chosen through audition, rehearse for 8 to 10 weeks in plays that range from classical to American Contemporary to new plays seeing their first production in scripts written by professionals and students. These productions vary widely in their styles and themes.
